My first camera was a Brownie Instamatic. People in their places, what we now call environmental portraits, was a favorite. A semester in India, another in Cape Town South Africa, and public health research in Bolivia, SA and several stints teaching English in Guatemala and China led naturally to a further interest in people and travel photography. Along the way, discovering new flavors and foods led to an interest in photographing markets and cuisine. As I worked and photographed, I found more common bonds than differences ... hence I often refer to my work as building cross-cultural connections.
